Using NetConnect

The NetConnect service utilizes a SQL database to manage the exchange of data between Net•Yield and the third party next day freight system provided by UPS, FedEx, and/or DHL. The SQL databases are typically installed in the Shared folder\NetYield\Business Models\NetConnect folder. If more than one Net•Yield database is running on the same shared folder, you will need a Net Connect folder for each company. The name of the SQL database is NetYield.Connect.x.x.xxx.mdf, and the log file is NetYield.Connect.x.x.xxx_log.ldf. The x.x.xxx is the current Net•Yield release version which is compatible with the NetYield.Connect databases. These files are not installed during the installation of Net•Yield. The database must be attached to the SQL server in order to set up the database source name (DSN). Describing how to attach a SQL database is outside the scope of this document. Please contact your network administrator for assistance in attaching the NetConnect database.

Once the NetConnect Database has been attached to SQL, a database source name (DSN) needs to be established to the database. The following process describes how to set up a DSN connection to the NetConnect database.

Note: Administrator rights for the workstation or server are required to set up a DSN. Please contact your network administrator for more information on setting up a DSN.

Step 1. Create a system DSN by accessing the data sources (ODBC) connection from each workstation that may run NetConnect by accessing the local workstation's Control Panel/Administrator Tools. The DSN can be setup on multiple workstations but NetConnect can only be run on one workstation at a time.

Step 2. Select the System DSN TAB then click the Add button

Step 3. Click on the SQL Server selection at the bottom of the list.

a. Name the DSN “NetConnect.x.x.xxx"

b. Enter a description of this DSN, i.e: "NetConnect"

c. Point the server to the SQL database

Note: SQLEXPRESS does not always display in the drop down of available servers. To add the DSN to a SQLEXPRESS, type in the following – COMPUTER NAME\SQLEXPRESS. Computer name is where the SQL server is residing

Step 4. Select how the user will be accessing the SQL data target.

Note: If you installed SQL Express and did not change any of the defaults then do not change any settings

Step 5. Click the change default database if the “NetYield.Connect.x.x.xxx” is not the default database.

Step 6. Click Finish

Step 7. Click “Test Data Source”. You should receive a message that the connection is working.

Step 8. Select OK.
